Dieline & Dimension Specs for Flat Bottom Side Gusset Bags
A precise dieline is essential for producing flat-bottom side gusset bags with consistent dimensions, stable standing performance, accurate folding, and reliable sealing. The design should be developed according to the product volume, material structure, filling equipment, and final packaging requirements.
Dieline Structure
The dieline should clearly define the bag width, body height, side gusset depth, bottom panel, sealing areas, fold lines, and cutting lines. For bags with zippers, valves, or other accessories, their positions and sealing allowances should also be incorporated into the design.
The dieline should distinguish between the finished bag dimensions and the film dimensions required for conversion.
Width and Height
Bag width and height should be determined according to the target filling volume, product density, and required shelf presentation. Sufficient internal space should be provided for product expansion and sealing.
For granular or irregular products, adequate headspace is particularly important to prevent product from entering the seal area.
Side Gusset Dimensions
Side gusset depth directly affects the bag's expandable capacity and appearance. The gusset should be proportionally matched to the bag width and height to provide sufficient volume without causing excessive material consumption.
Accurate fold positioning is required to maintain symmetrical side panels and prevent the finished bag from leaning or deforming.
Flat Bottom Dimensions
The bottom panel should provide a sufficiently wide and stable contact surface. Bottom width, fold position, corner geometry, and sealing allowance should be carefully defined in the dieline.
For heavier products, the base should be designed to withstand the filled product weight without excessive deformation.
Sealing Allowances
Adequate sealing areas must be included around the top, bottom, and gusset regions. Seal width should be compatible with the film structure and sealing equipment.
The dieline should prevent graphics, zippers, valves, or other components from interfering with critical sealing areas.
Dimensional Tolerances
Production specifications should establish acceptable tolerances for overall width, height, gusset depth, bottom dimensions, seal width, and component positioning. Consistent tolerances improve filling-line compatibility and finished-bag appearance.
Prototype Validation
Before mass production, prototypes should be tested with the actual product. Recommended evaluations include dimensional inspection, filled-bag standing tests, seal-strength testing, leakage testing, drop testing, and equipment trials where applicable.
A validated dieline helps reduce material waste, production defects, and inconsistencies between batches.
